Springtime Giveaway Carnaval

The giveaway is now closed and the winner is Sharmista! Thank you to everyone for participating.

Since the spring Bloggy Giveaway is apparently no more, my friend Laura picked up the ball and is RUNNING with it. She is holding a Springtime Giveaway Carnival at her site, and I am very excited to participate in it!

I picked up this book at a thrift store and while nothing it in struck my fancy, perhaps it will for you -

The projects in it include dresses, jumpers, skirts, a pinafore, aprons, accessories, and a few baby ideas plus more. In the interest of full disclosure, you can tell from the photo on the front that this book was published in 1971. But with a bit of creativity, I think many of these projects could be easily updated - and if you think a little girl wouldn't look cute in a pinafore today . . . well, I'm not sure what to tell you! Here is a link to the book on Amazon.com: Sewing without a pattern (Little craft book series)

Further disclosure, this book is used, and as such there is some marring on the cover and someone's little one thought the last few pages weren't quite colorful enough and added their own impressions with crayon. The book is still perfectly useable, though - and in great shape for being so vintage (that's a nice way of saying "kinda old").

If you'd like to be entered in this giveaway, please leave a comment. Make sure I have a way to contact you (either e-mail or via your blog), and please note that I am only able to ship to US addresses. You may notice that I am a very new blogger, so if you decide to take a chance and follow me and/or subscribe to my blog via a reader, please leave another comment(s) telling me so for another chance(s) to win!!

And, finally, because I'm a tiny bit worried that no one will sign up, you can get an extra chance to win if you leave another comment giving me a tip you wish you'd known when you started blogging. It can be anything! I'll draw a winner Friday evening.

And make sure to head over to Heavenly Homemakers for not only this carnival, but tons of information on frugal living, healthy eating, homeschooling, and so much more. Thanks for participating!

  1. Hi Nettacow, nice blog. Good luck with your giveaway and your blog. I'm not an excellent blogger so I feel funny giving advice, but I would say blog reading & commenting is as important as writing as far as getting traffic going.

  3. That looks like a great little book. Little girls always look good in pinafores, I think. ;-)

  4. OHHH! This sounds like it would be just the thing for my 12 year old daughter who is learning to sew and very interested in "creating her own" things! Pick me! Pick me!

  6. As far as tips on blogging, I am still pretty new to it. I have just been blogging about what my family is up to, but I am hoping to start adding recipes and gardening tips. I think a great way to get traffic to your blog is to participate in Menu Plan Monday at Organizing Junkie's blog!

  7. Hi, oh boy do I remember starting out with my new blog! First of all let me just say, I love to sew without a pattern, that is what caught my eye with your giveaway.
Now on to some pointers! I got my name out there by entering a lot of giveaways and making sure that my blog was the link to contact me. I also read some blogs that I loved and just happened to have something in common with me. I would leave comments on a regular basis and established a "friendship" to get them to visit my blog. I also let a few of my friends in real life know about my blog and found out some of them had blogs. We started to read each others blogs. Through them I meant new bloggers and it spread. I, by no means have thousands of readers on a daily basis. If I have more than 2 comments on a post I get excited. But this is how I got my name out there. Good luck!

  8. I don't know how to use a pattern, and actually just taught myself to sew so this would be a nice idea book for my to tweak some ideas for my 4 yr old dd :) Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. I think your giveaway choice is great. Not only did you go green with your shopping, but one can never have too many books! Love it!

  10. Here's a tip about blogging. Make sure that you watch your colors on your blog! Certain colors of text against certain colors of background or against a patterned background are extremely hard to read or just unpleasant to look at! I think you're fine on this topic so far!

  11. I don't have any little girls who need pinafores...but I certainly have nieces!!!! This books sounds like so much fun!!! I could even make my own apron! Since I don't like measuring ingredients when I cook, I really am not a big fan of following patterns either! Perfect book for me!

Great blog by the way! I'm super excited about it for you!

  12. This is great! Welcome to bloggy world! I'm fairly new too. Just started this year really. When I started I didn't really know what to write. But I've seen others post about things I wouldn't think of writing about. I was afraid no one would read my blog. I've learned to write about anything and I've joined in a few carnivals like this spring giveaway carnival. That's a good way to get readers. Also I've been doing some memes. Another good way to get readers and find more blogs to read.

  14. Thank you. This looks like a neat book. I really want to get back into sewing, but I'm having a hard time finding patterns of things that I like. This would be fun to look over and play with. And little girls DO still look adorable in pinafores. : ) God bless.

  18. Welcome to blogger land! I live in Canada and therefore am out for the giveaway but wanted to come by and welcome you!

My blogging tip? (and I'm new too!) is to join in memes each week and link up. The first meme I ever joined in was Frugal Friday where you share a frugal tip. It is at www.lifeasmom.com.
